Geraldine Brooks new novel Caleb’s Crossing

Geraldine Brooks is an author and journalist who grew up in the Western suburbs of Sydney. She worked for The Wall Street Journal, where she covered crises in the Middle East, Africa, and the Balkans. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction in 2006 for her novel March. Her first novel, Year of Wonders, is an international bestseller, and People of the Book is a New York Times bestseller translated into 20 languages. She is also the author of the nonfiction works Nine Parts of Desire and Foreign Correspondence. I was honored to photograph Geraldine for People of the Book in 2007. It was translated into so many languages that I started sending publishers different images of her because I had so many favorites. This past winter I photographed Ms. Brooks for her newest novel Caleb’s Crossing, which is being released May 3rd. Once again, Brooks takes a remarkable shard of history and brings it to vivid life. It is a must-read!

These next few photographs were taken in 2007 and 2008, for and after People of the Book was released. These images were used for Geraldine’s alternating author photos for various languages that People of the Book was translated into and for several publications that featured stories about the author and her work.
